I held the rope with all my might,
believing I'd be pulled in safely.
I held on tight with no one in sight,
believing I held a line to safety.
When my strength was gone, I dreamt of home,
trying not to give in to anxiety.
With great determination I gained composure,
holding hope to return to a welcome society.
Holding tight. Holding on.
I put it all behind me.
Once I made it through...once I finally broke loose...
my horror, my truth, my grasp...was on my noose.
